Ready Reader Visit - MLK Elementary
Wednesday, November 17, 2021 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
Ready Reader started as a grant funded program in 1998 to 15 classrooms, and today covers nearly 100 classrooms throughout Madison County in all three school systems.
What we offer:
Classrooms benefit from a visit from a librarian with a storytime each month. Classrooms also receive a deposit of books to form a portable classroom library. This collection is rotated every 3 months. Teachers also receive a resource kit with binder of materials, flannel counting activities, books, music CD and manipulative such as puppet/puzzle or toy. Additional supplemental materials are provided as materials become available.
With each visit, students receive a parent/caregiver information sheet detailing the visit with provided book list, poem or rhyme to do together at home and coloring sheet on the back page. Students also receive stickers and an Ellison cut-out themed for the visit as a reward for participation and developing literary skills. Each fall, to coincide with National Library Card month, Ready Reader Librarians distribute library card applications at each classroom and register students for library cards.
