Shoplifters (Japan, 2018) follows a family who supplement their income with shoplifting and other petty crimes. When they find a neglected child outside in the cold, they invite her home for dinner...and then decide to raise her as their own.
It received the Palm d'Or (the award for best film) at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival and was Japan's submission for Best International Feature Film at the 2019 Oscars.
