"To Kill a Mockingbird" Discussion with Polly Padden

Join us for a discussion of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird presented by Polly Padden, PhD candidate, Mississippi State University, Department of History.  Polly's presentation will include a discussion on the cultural context of the book's setting, Alabama in 1933, and it's publication in 1960. Learn what events and people influenced Harper Lee, why she wrote the book, and what story was she trying to tell?  Also, how accurately does the book portray Alabama in 1933?

Polly will also discuss the film adaption of the book and thoughts on the film's interpretation.
