Coming from South Korea (and Canada): Past Lives (2023)
The friendship and budding romance between two 12-year-olds in Seoul is cut short when one of their families immigrates to Canada. Their lives branch from there, and after over two decades have passed, the two reunite once again as adults in New York City and must come to terms with their newfound cultural differences as their friendship and attraction reawaken.
Starring Greta Lee and Teo Yoo, Past Lives was written and directed by Celine Song, who loosely based it on her own experiences, and was nominated for Best Picture and Best Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
Coming to America – A Film Series
This film series shares four different tales of coming to America: a military thriller about political defection to the U.S., a fish-out-of-water dramedy in the Midwest, a drama about a family seeking opportunity and healing in New York City, and a romantic drama about two childhood friends meeting again far from their birthplace.
