The Southside Mills: Merrimack & Lowe Mills and Their Place in Huntsville’s History

The production of textiles was the economic engine that drove Huntsville’s economy for decades during the early 20th Century. Join us as we explore the two huge mills that operated in the suburb of West Huntsville. Merrimack was the largest mill in Madison County and had a long successful history. As Merrimack Mill & Huntsville Manufacturing Company. Lowe’s operations were economically troubled and it was the first major mill to close. However,  its place in Huntsville history is preserved as a major arts center. Join presenter David Lilly as he explores the fascinating history of these two important business establishments. We’ll look at the mills, the people who worked there and the villages that grew up around them.
