Dunkirk (2017)
Following a catastrophic loss during the German invasion of France in World War II, a desperate rescue mission ensues to save hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk. The film unfolds through three viewpoints: a British soldier on the Dunkirk beach over the course of a week, the crew of an English civilian ship requisitioned into the rescue operation over the course of a day, and a Royal Air Force fighter pilot providing air cover for the evacuation over the course of an hour.
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Fionn Whitehead, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, and Harry Styles, Dunkirk was nominated for 8 Academy AwardsAwards (including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Cinematography), winning three (Best Film Editing, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing).
