June’s first film will be from the 30s: The Wizard of Oz
The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American musical fantasy film directed by Victor Fleming, based on L. Frank Baum’s 1900 children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The film stars Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, a young girl from Kansas who is swept away by a tornado to the magical Land of Oz. Hoping to return home, Dorothy sets out along the Yellow Brick Road to find the mysterious Wizard, joined by the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion, each seeking something they believe they lack. Blending groundbreaking Technicolor visuals, unforgettable songs, and timeless themes of courage, friendship, and home, the film remains one of the most beloved and influential movies in cinema history.
