The MAD Movie-A-Thon-O-Rama: Blacula (1972)
Thursday, February 11, 2027 6 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.
African prince Mamuwalde suffers a blood curse at the fangs of Dracula only to awaken in modern Los Angeles (circa 1972) after two decorators buy all the furnishings from Dracula's castle in an estate sale. Mamuwalde (William Marshall) is introduced to a new world, and meets beautiful, young Tina (Vonetta McGee), the reincarnation of his beloved Princess Luva. Legendary filmmaker William Crain brings Mamuwalde/Blacula to horrific life with an excellent cast that also includes Denise Nicholas, Thalmus Rasulala, Gordon Pinsent, Ji-Tu Cumbuka and Elisha Cook Jr. This 100th MAD Movie-A-Thon-O-Rama film is dedicated with love and respect to Brenda Jones, my 11th grade English teacher, who shared the story of watching this movie as a kid and how exciting it was seeing someone who looked like her playing one of the classic monsters for the first time. It was the moment I realized how important cinema can be, regardless of the genre. 93 minutes. Food and drink are allowed in the auditorium during the film.
February 25- The Bubble in 3-D
The movie will be shown in AUDITORIUM 1 of the Madison Public Library.
