The MAD Movie-A-Thon-O-Rama: The Bubble 3-D (1966)
Thursday, February 25, 2027 6 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.
A private plane lands in a strange desert town when a passenger goes into labor. The husband is too excited about his son to notice that all the townspeople walk about like blank automatons. They soon realize there is a clear bubble surrounding the strange town with some kind of being watching them from above. Arch Oboler was known for his terrifying radio plays on the old Lights Out radio show. Here, he puts his characters into a Twilight Zone-type situation and lets them try to find their way out of it. It's a mind-melting science-fiction horror film, with truly bizarre visuals and copious objects flying out of the screen right into your face. This is the long lost 112-minute version of the film, which was shortened of a lot of the 3-D effects when it was released in 2-D to drive-ins in the '70s as Fantastic Invasion of Planet Earth. This screening will be in Anaglyphic 3-D (red/green glasses), and glasses will be provided. 112 minutes. Food and drink are allowed in the auditorium during the film.
The movie will be shown in AUDITORIUM 1 of the Madison Public Library.
