In this program, participants will explore the mythology, folklore, stories, and legends of North Alabama through the perspective of a member of the Echota Cherokee Tribe, a state-recognized tribe in Alabama. Designed for local and aspiring authors, the program will examine how to "write what you know" by finding meaningful stories and settings that can inspire literary fiction, historical fiction, horror, gothic fiction, and magical realism. Participants will also learn how to navigate the legalities of writing about real places and discover techniques for weaving setting into a story so seamlessly that it becomes a character in its own right.

TIME: 12:00pm - 1:00pm

LOCATION: 2nd Floor Events Room
