Singin’ in the Rain (1952) [G]
The introduction of sound to motion pictures causes throws the production of film The Dueling Cavalier into chaos, as its star falls in love with a struggling actress.
Singin’ In the Rain is almost universally considered not only one of the best musicals ever made, but one of the best films ever made. Its cast (Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O’Connor, and Jean Hagen), choreography (by Kelly and Stanley Donen, who codirected the film together), and script (by Betty Comden and Adolph Green) are legendary.
Hollywood on Hollywood
This film series takes four peeks behind the curtain of Hollywood: a musical about the introduction of sound in the late 1920s, a comedy about the chaos of a 1950s movie studio, a drama about the ruthless puppeteering of a mid-20th century movie producer, and a musical dramedy about the relentless struggle of being an unknown trying to catch a big break in the present day.
