Chicago (2002) [PG-13]
Following the murder of her lover, a thoroughly unscrupulous, fame-obsessed woman in 1920s Chicago seeks the assistance of a legendarily successful (and equally unscrupulous) defense lawyer in an attempt to escape the hangman’s noose.
This adaptation of the classic stage musical by Bob Fosse, John Kander, and Fred Ebb was nominated for 12 Oscars and won 6, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress [Catherine Zeta-Jones]. Director Rob Marshall, star Renee Zellweger, and supporting actors John C. Reilly and Queen Latifah were also nominated.
Bad Romance: A Film Series
A trio of crime films where love ain’t what it’s cracked up to be: an Academy Award winning musical set in a Roaring Twenties prison, a classic film noir, and a fictionalized retelling of an infamous crime spree. Valentine’s Day is next month; this month love doesn’t pay.
