The Past (2013, France/Iran)

When an Iranian man returns to Paris to finalize his divorce with his French soon-to-be ex-wife, he finds himself pulled into an intense family drama involving his wife, who is pregnant with the child of her new boyfriend; her new boyfriend, whose wife is in a coma; and her daughter, who despises her mother’s new beau.

The Past was written and directed by the acclaimed Iranian director Asghar Farhadi and female lead Berenice Bejo won the award for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival.

Words That We Couldn’t Say – An International Film Series

This globe-spanning film series centers on situations where communication breaks down and people try their best to find what hasn’t been – or can’t be – expressed: from a lone man quietly living his day to day life, to a convoluted family drama, to a tense exploration of criminal accusations at a school, to the true story of a woman living in a military dictatorship trying desperately to keep her family together.
