The Teacher’s Lounge (2023, Germany)
A German middle school has been plagued by a rash of unsolved thefts, creating an atmosphere of paranoia and accusations. When a newly transferred teacher attempts to solve the thefts herself, she finds a plausible suspect, but her actions inadvertently trigger a chaotic domino effect, causing the school to be completely enveloped in mistrust and animosity.
Directed and co-written by İlker Çatak and starring Leonie Benesch, The Teacher’s Lounge was nominated for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards and won Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay at the German Academy Awards.
Words That We Couldn’t Say – An International Film Series
This globe-spanning film series centers on situations where communication breaks down and people try their best to find what hasn’t been – or can’t be – expressed: from a lone man quietly living his day to day life, to a convoluted family drama, to a tense exploration of criminal accusations at a school, to the true story of a woman living in a military dictatorship trying desperately to keep her family together.
