The Films of Billy Wilder, Part One

Billy Wilder was one of the great directors of classic Hollywood. Over a 30 year career his movies won numerous awards and critical acclaim. This year we're taking an in-depth look at his storied career. Part One will look at the early films of Wilder as he establishes himself as an acclaimed moviemaker.
Ninotchka (1939), directed by Ernst Lubitsch. A stern Soviet woman sent to Paris to supervise the sale of jewels seized from Russian nobles finds herself attracted to a man who represents everything she is supposed to detest. This film establshed Wilder (working with Charles Brackett) as a major screenwriter in Hollywood.
