Coming from the Soviet Union: The Hunt for Red October (1990)
When a state-of-the-art Soviet submarine with an arsenal of nuclear missiles goes rogue and begins making a beeline towards North America, the navies of both the United States and the Soviet Union desperately scour the Atlantic Ocean to find and stop it. Meanwhile, CIA analyst Jack Ryan deduces that the captain of the Red October may not be planning to attack the United States, but to defect to it, and embarks on his own mission to find the sub before it’s too late.
Starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin and based on the bestselling novel by Tom Clancy, The Hunt for Red October was director John McTiernan’s follow-up to Die Hard.
[Due to film length, the film will start at 5:30 with a pre-film presentation starting at 5:25.]
Coming to America – A Film Series
This film series shares four different tales of coming to America: a military thriller about political defection to the U.S., a fish-out-of-water dramedy in the Midwest, a drama about a family seeking opportunity and healing in New York City, and a romantic drama about two childhood friends meeting again far from their birthplace.
