Two young lovers in Moscow are separated when the German Army invades: Boris enlists to fight, while Veronika deals with uncertainty and hardship at home.

The Cranes are Flying won the Palme D’or (the award for best film) at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival.

World War II – The Curtain Falls: An International Film Series

The films in this series explore lives amidst the tumult of World War II – from soldiers and their commanders to civilians caught in the crossfire – as the war staggers to its end.
