The Burmese Harp (Japan, 1956)
In Burma at the close of WWII, a platoon of Japanese soldiers begin seeing an enigmatic monk who resembles a missing soldier from their unit; convinced he is their old war buddy, they attempt to unmask his true identity.
Nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, The Burmese Harp is considered one of the first films to depict the evils of WWII from the viewpoint of soldiers in the Japanese army.
